My story

An ongoing limerence battle

I was in my first year of med school when limerence entered my life. It quickly spiraled from an innocent attraction to another student into a cycle of anxiety, self-hatred, intrusive thoughts, and depression. The highs of joy that surged from just seeing my limerence objects around were terrific.

But the lows were terrifying: I struggled to get by every day and nothing - studies, work, or hobbies, made sense when he was not around.

My behavior reminded me closely of addiction, so I turned to science and therapy to find ways to cope. I learned that research was scarce and the therapists I talked to did not realize the intensity of the feeling and the suffering that comes with it. Instead, I came across r/limerence or Reddit, where thousands of sufferers shared similar stories. We were all stuck in the same boat with no way to get out.

That’s how the idea of GetOver, an app that helps accompany limerents on their recovery journey, came to be.
